Painting is my passion and I am so glad I found it.carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05099908927489930039noreply@blogger.comBlogger10125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703713321610507856.post-52223100272769368972009-02-22T04:55:00.000-08:002009-02-22T05:18:34.644-08:00Time to pick up a paintbrush again.

We have had a busy few days getting our house sorted. We have a loft full of junk that we have collected over the years from antique shops and car boot sales, plus all the usual stuff that you save over the years. Even if we do not move house yet, at least we will have a fresh start. We still have to paint the hallway, kitchen and utility room and put some of our big Victorian furniture into storage to give the illusion of space. The estate agent was full of ideas which basically meant throwing everything out and starting again. Hoping the market picks up again soon or maybe we will just build a big new extension here.

I spent a bit of time with my grandchildren on Friday. We had a lovely day making pottery and painting it before it goes in the kiln and looking round the Bedford museum. They both chatter non-stop and are still so sweet at only 5 and 7 years.

Still thinking about my abstract and looking for more of natures patterns. Close up photography of flowers and trees seem to work well. The painting above is a picture I did a couple of years ago, pouring acrylic paint onto block canvas. I loved the translucence of the paint.

Thank you Angela for your tip about the music - hope this has worked.

carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05099908927489930039noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703713321610507856.post-62607702333504576092009-02-15T04:16:00.000-08:002009-02-15T04:58:41.657-08:00Yet More Winter LandscapesMy pictures are in the wrong order. I do have great difficulty getting them where I would like them to go. Any tips would be appreciated.

This is my photograph of an icy puddle which may work as an abstract reference.

Last Friday was our last day of painting warm and cool winter landscapes and here are this week's versions. It will be quite a relief (I think) to start thinking about abstract work which we will start in two weeks' time. The first couple of weeks we will work, either with an old painting or photo, and possibly have a structure of some kind as a focal point. Then, more excitingly, we will pour the paint on and see what we can make of it.

Well we are thinking about moving so will spend the next week having a bit of a spring clean before the estate agent comes to give us an valuation. It is a bit of a daunting task as we have accumulated so much rubbish in the 11 years that we have lived here. We will be having lots of trips to the charity shops and, of course, the tip. It is a bad time to sell, so it may not happen but at least we will have had a clear out. I will have to hide all my painting stuff in the garage. Thank goodness for the garage. Maybe we can hide the dogs in there too. She is the master of watercolour with the emphasis on colour! With blurb in mind and a reminder from Joan, thought I would write some blurb of my own. We have been snowed in for a couple of days so there is time to look at the art books, tidy my painting room and actually do a little bit of painting in between towelling down damp dogs. Over the Christmas period I worked some more on my papaya but it gradually got worse (too much green) so I am thinking of gessoing over it, or using oil paint or throwing it away. Have also tried another watercolour of Kew Palm House which is still not really working. I don't know quite what else to do with it so I just look at it every day.

More recently we have been working on winter landscapes in my Friday workshops using warm and cool pallettes - a good exercise for me in using colours I am that I don't usually work with. I don't know how everyone else does it. The Christmas shopping is all done at last and my grandchildren are coming to stay next week.

As Christmas gets nearer, there seems to be less time to fit everything in. There is still shopping to be done, presents to be wrapped, my grand-daughter's birthday party and paintings to get on with. It will be lovely when the holidays come and I won't have to be anywhere.

I went to an acrylic workshop this week and, as usual, there just was not enough time to finish my painting. Have posted a picture of my papaya tree and one day hope to finish it. It is on a nice square box canvas. On Friday we are working with granulating watercolours in a subject of our choice. I am not sure what it will be but think it is always so much better to go in with something worked out in advance.

carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05099908927489930039noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703713321610507856.post-86541512367632783982008-11-22T05:59:00.000-08:002008-11-22T06:09:44.060-08:00Last Week's WorkshopsI was going to class on Wednesday but it was such a lovely sunny day and we had a 3 inch layer of oak leaves on the back garden, so I opted to do some leaf collecting instead. It was probably better exercise than painting but, looking out of the window today, it looks as though it will have to be done again after a windy day yesterday.

Although I didn't paint any 'figures in action', I did go to the group where we have been attempting a Klimt-style painting. Last Wednesday I went to a local workshop where we were free to paint anything so I chose one of my faves, a canna that had looked beautiful in the summer. Have put up a picture of the finished painting for comments, ideas, etc. This coming week we are painting figures in action. Should be interesting as we are going straight in with the brush and painting each other.

On Friday we are attempting a still life in the style of Gustav Klimt. That should be great fun with all the decorative work involved but I am not so sure about still life. Klimt's work nearly always involved figures. Anyway, I will show you the result later.

I am struggling a bit with the technology. It has taken me nearly a week to work out how to add links and I am still not getting the pictures cropped properly or put in the place that I want them. Any assistance would be gratefully received.carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05099908927489930039noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4703713321610507856.post-25552742534842540912008-11-13T08:15:00.000-08:002008-11-13T08:28:10.998-08:00First Ever Blog

This is an exciting day for me, having just found out how to do this. Have been following other aspiring and successful artists' blogs which I found via Carol Carter's website. Please excuse any major blunders for the first few posts as I am still learning.

I belong to a couple of local art societies and attend painting groups each week and would be grateful to receive any constructive criticism from fellow bloggers. I paint mostly in watercolour, once a year in oil, and have recently been experimenting with acrylics. You know what they say, "Jack of all trades...", that's me. I am keen to get this posted so here goes and here is my first painting for any thoughts.
carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05099908927489930039noreply@blogger.com8
